Guildford Wedding Photographer, Forest Engagement Shoot
Ruth + Jimmy
Just a few weeks before Ruth and Jimmy said their vows at the gorgous Gate Street Barn, just on the out skirts of Guildford, they decided to take some time away from the last minute planning and spend some time together in the tranquility of the nature.
I love the woods and forests I live near in the Guildford area. I know many of these places like the back of my hand, mostly from growing up mountain biking around the area. So any excuse to get out into the forests is good enough for me. As Ruth & Jimmys Guildford wedding photographer, I joined them to document some of these precious moments together before becoming Husband & Wife.
With nearly every couple whos wedding journey I photograph we meet up before the day and spend some time getting to know each other a bit better. Going exploring in the forest is one of the great ways to do this. I usually ask my couples if they prefer the city environment or nature, and we come up with a location that suits them as a couple.
Jimmy is a Vet so his preferance straight away was nature. It’s my job as a Guildford wedding photographer to know the best areas we have around, we have a great variety of natural space but this is one of my favourites (mostly because of the good bike trails though!).

Nearly everyone cringes at the thought of having their picture taken, why wouldn’t you! When did you last have someone stalking you through the woods pointing cameras in your direction. When ever my mum or a friend pulls out their camera phone to catch an ‘in the moment’ picture, I let out a massive internal sigh while I stand there for 5 minutes being told to smile or hold a ‘crazy’ pose. Trust me I get it.
The point of this getting to know each other session, is to banish that feeling that you are a performing Seal in front of a camera to the past. It’s a difficult task to convince you before your wedding day that it won’t be awkward having your picture taken all day. But once we know each other a little, and have spent some time getting lost in the woods, Bliar Witch style, we will have shared a near death experience and be conrades, ready to take on the awkwardness of wedding day photos.

I think the Surrey Hills are an underrated location. Just a 30 minute train ride from London they are perfect as an escape from the city and a journey back in time for a little dose of old English life. The Surrey Hills, to name but a few things of interest, has country manors, vineyards, wild forests, hills & lakes, quiant English villages (as seen in the movies!), antique shops, and importantly rustic country pubs! Here’s one of my fav’s.
