ENGAGEMENT SHOOT EPIC, BY MATT LEE, SOUTH WALES WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
LAURA + BRIAN
I’m so glad these guys wanted me to be theie South Wales wedding photographer! Their wedding is later in the year but for now I wanted to give them some amazing Engagement photos, and an experience they would never forget!
So we headed to the mountains in South Wales for Laura and Brians wedding engagement photoshoot. Wales has amazing landscapes, and I’ve shot here with lots of couples. I wanted a location where these guys edgy style was contrasted by the natural surroundings, the rugged ancient landscape of the Brecons was the perfect place to start. And I know the area well from biking and hiking. We then headed for the Gower coast line, this was a long shot because my plan relied on good weather. Gower has some beautiful locations to spend an evening taking in the sunset, and it turned out we were very lucky and the good weather I hoped for came through.
If your thinking of planning your wedding in South Wales, or your Engagement shoot, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, the Welsh weather, it can be, let’s say unpredictable! Saying that though when the conditions are good, it is absolutly glorious. Time of year. This goes with the weather one, Winter will be cold, and, Summer could well be cold, but it could be hot, you just never know in Wales until a few days before. I think you have to be willing to embrace whatever mother nature can throw at you, it’s all part of the fun. From my point of view as a wedding photographer, as long as your game I am game for anything. To me warm and sunny or cold and rainy, your pictures should reflect the reality and atmosphere of the location.
Finding your wedding venue in South Wales is going to be a huge consideration. My above point about the Welsh weather means you have to think about logistics carefully. I mean yes it will be incredible to have that outdoors wedding, but have a backup plan incase. Same goes if you plan to have that ceremony on top of the Brecon Beacons. If you can pull it off though it will be epic, as will the pictures. There’s always the option of having your wedding in a cave!

How is it possible for two people to be so effortlessly cool and relaxed while walking barefoot through the mountains and along a rugged cliff edge! We went from the mountains to the sea, and shot until it was nearly dark. The perfect evening sky blessed us with some awesome lighting.
